We all started out noobs, that's why we love to share our knowledge and opinions with you.
The main site does no checking of their files and anyone with an account can upload there.
Sites like mod the sims check files and you get better quality.
Also if you are downloading lots with custom content, unless you are using the sims 2 clean installer, you could end up with all sorts of unwanted stuff.
