OK, i saved this as a draft, completed it and tried to send... it screwed up somehow and didn't appear to go... did it again, same result. I have no idea if it went or not, so c&p'ed the text into another email. IF this HAS gone before, i apologise. A crack replaces an existing file and changes how the game starts. The game simply starts without trying to find the CD. Therefore we know the CD isn't necessary, it just starts that way to try to weed out pirated copies or some crap that doesn't work properly anyway! Want to know how? I'm going to tell you, lolz. So, in my experience, FOR SIMS 2: You want to run the game without the CD. You go look online for a game crack. An easy way to figure out which one you need is... whatever CD you need to play the game, that is the name of the crack you are looking for. Probably a good idea to find out where other people get theirs, coz there are bodgey sites out there. (SuSim recommends a site further down, [and thank you SuSim, i've saved the email]) Please note, this does not go in your My Documents folder! You find the crack you are looking for, d/l it, then have a look inside the zip file. It should have the same name as the file it is replacing. Before unzipping, go to where the original file is ...mine was in C:/Program Files/EA GAMES/The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff/TSBin. Inside there is a file called Sims2EP9. The zip file my crack came in identified it as the M&G crack and the file inside was called Sims2EP9.exe. Your original would be inside the TSBin in whichever folder is your latest EP, and have a different number on the end if its a different EP. Make sure your original has the same name as the crack you downloaded! Having verified that you have downloaded the right file, you then copy the *real* exe file somewhere safe then unzip the crack to the right TSBin, which will overwrite the *real* exe file. Replace your shortcut on your desktop. TA DAAAA, hit the shortcut and the game runs without the CD. How does it do that? No idea. You need the original exe file in case something goes wrong. Also i think if you are going to add another SP or EP to your game at a later time, you should replace the original exe file before you do so. If you are using the same EP after additions, simply put the crack back, otherwise you'll need the one for your new EP. PLEASE NOTE: M&G is marketed as a stuff pack but it FUNCTIONS as an expansion pack, so you need a new crack for that one. Happy Simming, Owlsy Save the Earth!!! ....
