objects_for_Sims2 Re: Wut i did on my break from this group

But you did fix it yourself, and cleaned up your downloads to boot!
Are you remembering to save often? I hear sims 3 really reinforces that point!

Dear friends and fellow Simmers

I have discovered that:

If your wonderful/delightful/dammit/piece-of-crap game won't start, you can:

Check for duplicate files using Sims2Pack Clean Installer

The programme checks the file you select, the more files you have the longer it takes, it tells you up the top the number of total files checked when its finished.  Take it to full-screen, click on the MD5 header at the top of that column and all your duplicates will be listed with the file they are duplicating.  I don't know how to get them all listed together, so its a matter of scrolling thru and deleting the pink files, or the file its duplicating if you'd rather keep that one.  (i have 35,000 files, gee that was FUN)

Check for duplicate files and move/delete files using Delphy Download Organiser

This programme is not as comprehensive at picking up duplicates, i think the Clean Installer is better for that.  However, i used it to move all my game mods into a Game Mods folder, called 1Game Mods so its right at the top, much easier to find mods that might be conflicting and delete the one you choose, which brings me to the next proggy:

Check for hack conflicts and prune out potential conflicts using HCDU

available here:  http://www.simwardrobe.com/  click on Sims 2 then Programs

Now not all need to be deleted, for example the Werewolf Attractor Sign and the Werewolf Repellant Sign conflict.  Obviously they are not going to be used at the same time.  Some of my Inteenimator files conflict with other Inteenimator files, but i left them alone and the game runs fine.  For the rest, its a matter of deciding which hack you want more BUT check thru the whole list before you decide, as one of them might be mentioned multiple times and i'd say that is the obvious one to go.

All of the above is necessary and wonderful and housekeeping chores, HOWEVER, we all know they never get done unless the bloody stupid, wonderful game won't start!
BUT dear Simmers, and this is a HUGE BUT:

Firstly, you might like to just delete the .cache files at the bottom of the My Documents/EA Games/Sims2 folder.

Laughing at myself here,

Owlsy
