I'm glad my dad's not like that anymore. He always seemed to compare his three ACTUAL kids, to my step-brother. My step-brother was the "perfect" kid. He got all A's, he plays four different sports, plays three different instruments, you know, the perfect kid. (Of course, as soon as he graduated, he moved to a college 4 hours away. He can't stand them.) My older brother, younger sister, and I, all of whom are HIS kids, got treated like dirt, because we didn't do well in school for various reasons. My brother probably would have graduated, but he just didn't like school. He would rather have been playing and making music, I DID graduate, but barely, but I was picked on and bullied by my classmates for being different, I couldn't concentrate well, and I would rather have been drawing, and painting. (I hadn't really discovered computer art til I was about 19.) My sister would rather be writing, and all THREE of us have ADD, myself being ADHD. She's still in school though.
My dad finally changed when I told him he was a rotten father and an all around horrible person. That we weren't our step-brother (or in Molly's case, half-brother) and never would be, and that even Ian wasn't as perfect as he seemed. That's when he started paying attention to my brother's music, my sisters writing (she was 6 at the time, still LOVES to write), and even my art. He now treats us like individual people.
I'm sorry your dad died before he could learn to appreciate you and your art. Some people are just like that. I don't know if you believe in an afterlife, but sometimes it helps to even think that maybe he's finally seeing what he missed out on seeing.

could not share it openly! Jodie: My father died 3 years ago from
cancer! He suffered a long painful time, I stayed by his side with my
mother till he died! My brother and sister whom he supported in
everything they did could not find the time to be with him when he
needed them most! On his death bed they finely showed up, and he told
each of them in turn how much he loved them & how sorry he was for
past mistakes, when I leaned over him he said to me " what are you
doing here?" you see while he was so very sick, he would call out for
my brother or sister & to calm him I would pretend to be the one he
wanted at that time it seemed to help ease his pain! He never, even
while dieing, accepted me! Still I would do what I did for him again,
that is who I am! Thanks for your kind wish, it means much to me.
